--{{CRAIGSLIST -VS- EBAY}}--

So after using eBay for quite a few years now, and Craigslist for quite a few months now, lol, I feel it necessary for me to create a post going over the positives and negatives of each!! This is original content right here, and please, feel free to comment on your experiences or if you think I am incorrect on this!!

---eBay---
Pros-
  • Extremely wide selection, hard NOT to find what you are looking for!
  • eBay seller/buyer protection
  • You can get a great deal... Sometimes
  • Lots of crap results to look through very often
Cons-
  • Fees, fees, fees!
  • Shipping makes it cost more, more often than not.
  • Paypal adds even more fees!
  • Some items can be overpriced
---Craigslist---
Pros-
  • Prices seem better a lot of the time
  • Never pay for shipping
  • Entertaining to look at everyday, as some of the stuff is so random
  • Not as wide of a selection
  • Get items instantly, possibly
  • No Fees!!
Cons-
  • Having to meet somewhere with a stranger can be intimidating
  • Prices can be ridiculous sometimes, but sellers usually realize when they are and lower them
  • Can be a lot of crap to sift through as well
  • Spam/Misleading posts

  1. Never used Craiglist before since I never had problems with Ebay in the past. The fees are annoying but the prices and the buyer's protection is why I never went on Craiglist. I might give it a try someday, thanks for the Pros/Cons!

  2. I've always been afraid to get shot/stabbed/mugged/raped by using craiglist.

I don't use ebay that much either though, but it seems a bit safer.

  3. Ebay-shipping sux. CL- getting to meet a stranger can turn out to be very rewarding. Your results may vary.

  4. Buying off of Craigslist is always really awkward for me, and kind of sucks because usually I have to drive and get lost :I

  5. I think CL wins because you don't have that middleman taking your money.

  6. If it wasn't for the fees ebay is awesome. I go where i can sell better.

  7. Agreed with the previous comment, Ebay is a BLATANT ripoff anymore when it comes to listing fees + they take a percentage of the final sale price from the seller. What is it up to like 20% now? ROFL. I stopped selling with them ages ago as a result of this. CL on the other hand is free, but its also spam city.

  8. Ive actually met up with people from Craigslist, some very nice people. It could be good for people who are shut-ins.

  12. Good points for both. I've had more experience using ebay as a buyer, but would probably look at Craigslist as a source...thanks!

  14. I prefer amazon over either. I sell books on it, buy whatever, and it's just better all around!

I look at Craig's list for job offers. I stay away from ebay cause its ass expensive.

  18. I have bought and sold on both sites.

I find CL great for large items locally, I sold a car within 2 days of posting it on CL only.

And I like eBay for smaller high valued things, sure the fees suck, but you get great nationwide exposure and are able to sell niche market stuff easier.
