Had a Feeling This was Coming

Pot Law Hopes Dashed as California Votes Down Prop. 19

I really want to hear YOUR guy's opinion on this, and then I will play devil's advocate to all of your comments, see if it creates an interesting discussion, which I feel like it will.

I had a feeling it was not going to pass this time around, but how about next time? Or ever?

Also, thanks to all those that voted today, good for you!! I don't care if you are on my side or not, if you care about this stuff I respect you that much more!

  1. Well I think a lot of people didn't vote for it because it put so many more restrictions on weed. It changed 100$ fines to 1000$ with jail time. I know mass stoners that voted no because of that, and also how you need a super expensive license to grow and distribute. It had so many flaws that people were over it. I voted yes but I am not bummed at all that it didn't pass.

  2. I'm not a smoker so I really didn't feel like I had a dog in this fight, but I think that sooner or later this issue is gonna have to be resolved. It's not going to go away, and legalization is worth looking at if it would help reduce crime and what not. I'm sure the drug cartels in Mexico are pretty happy it didn't pass... more $$$ for them!

  3. @Anon420, I had no idea it did that, very interesting. I suppose that is a big change indeed!!(On the fines) I think that the last sentence would be kind of how I would feel about it if I lived there.

@Guy Move Blogger, Same as me for the first half. I wonder if this would be an effective method for stopping those drug cartels and such, I feel it would be an interesting experiment to say the least.

  4. I did read that Proposition 19 was flawed in terms of interpretation as well. despite the expensive license to grow and increased fine, an age was set for legal use, couldnt be used in any space with a minor, with "space" being open to interpretation by judges. It was kind of harmful to most smokers out there.

I personally would have liked to see it pass, so that at least other states could follow the example, only about 13 out of 50 of the states in the US are okay with medicinal use, so totally legalizing it in one state would have had a good effect on the rest of the country I feel, and they could have tweaked it along the way to be more beneficial to the people.

  6. I haven't looked deep into it but with pot becoming legal would that also mean a person could grow the plant to make things other then to smoke? Instead of importing tons of hemp cali could just grow it and make a ton more jobs processing it into something else. The reason above is why i would like to see it pass.

  10. I have no opinion really. I'm not a smoker and not from Cali. I think it's actually better for the smokers that it didn't pass.

  12. Reading some of the details of the proposed changes made me pause. I'm hoping though that positive change on this issue can take place in the near future.

  13. After reading an article about what Prop 19 actually was, I think it's a good thing it didn't pass. It changed charges for things like a gift of marijuana under an ounce from a $100 fine to jail time.
